Your Last Tear
When it comes to saving things, Steven and I seem to take quite a different approach. I would categorize myself as a “minimalist.” Steven on the other hand...well...he likes to keep things! Lots of things: old tools, miscellaneous parts, pipes, fittings, half used bottles of spray paint, lumber, even random odd and ends! You name it, he probably has it in his shop! He values things that I would quickly discard as “useless” or “not worth keeping.”
Last week, I was doing laundry while listening to worship music. One of my recent, favorite songs began playing and within seconds, I found myself kneeling in gratitude and love before my amazing Father. As I sang my heart out, I felt a tear roll down my cheek. When it did, I instantly thought of this passage from Psalm 56:8 - “You’ve stored my many tears in your bottle—not one will be lost. For they are all recorded in your book of remembrance.”
In that moment, I could envision the Father running over to me, with the “Brooke Caldwell’s jar of tears” that He’s collected and joyously catching that tear of worship. Then came two more tears down my other cheek. Three tears. Wow, three tears that represented my love, my affection , my humble gratitude for the God who rescued me from the pit of depression. The God who gave me a reason to live. This God put a new song in my mouth and He restored me, giving me hope, purpose, and joy that’s deeper than the ocean! He flipped my world upside down with His love. Those Three tears said more than any words could. They represented so much to me, but not only me...
What an honor to have those tears cherished by the God of all creation. God who made billions of stars and countless galaxies loves our tears. They’re not discarded, not counted as useless, but priceless, valuable, worth saving.
One day, we will all cry one last tear.
Scripture tells us that there will come a time when God Himself will wipe away the last tear we will ever cry. Wow, just let that sink in. God, physically touching our faces! I used to believe that it was a tear of sadness, maybe even regret of what we could have done better in life, but the more I think about it, the more my mind has changed.
What if the last tear we cry is in humble gratitude and speechless wonder as we are finally able to see God in all His glory. As we witness what Our Father has prepared for us in Heaven and to at last be able to mentally comprehend the depth of God’s love for us and His master plan of redeeming mankind, maybe tears are the only response we will have.
Face to face, looking into His eyes, He’ll smile as He watches us step into eternity. With childlike wonder, eyes wide, and mouth open, I can envision a tear rolling down our cheek and God reaching over to capture that last tear and placing it in the bottle that has our name on it. As He SEALS the lid, His eyes will glisten as He grabs our hand and says, “Welcome Home. I love you and now my precious child, you finally know how much! I can’t wait to show you the house that I have built for you. You’re going to love it!”
