God's Kind of Love
Steven and I both grew up in the same church and we also attended the same Christian school. Because of the strong Biblical background, scripture memorization was a part of our childhood and now, as an adult, we are so thankful it was. Of course, we didn’t have revelation on all that we were memorizing, but as we “hid the Word in our hearts,” we can gratefully say it has stayed there.
One of the first passages I memorized in school was 1 Corinthians 13 - known as the Love Chapter. I want to briefly highlight the very last verse that says, “And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” (NKJ) The first observation I would like to make is that these attributes are connected to one another. Think about this, without knowing the Love of God, we can neither have faith nor hope.
Scripturally, faith is linked to hope and then, love is linked to faith. Whoa! Is your head spinning? Let’s take a step back and try to get a grip on this!
Galatians 5 says that Faith works by Love. Because when we know the depth of God’s love for us, we can have great faith because we are convinced that God is for us and He always, always wants the best for our life, our future, our health, our families, and our finances! Our faith literally has the ability to take root in the love God has for us! Ephesians 3:17 says that Christ dwells in our hearts through Faith so that we may be rooted and grounded in Love. So that is the link of Faith to Love.
Now let’s see how the Spirit links Faith and Love to Hope! Hebrews 11 says that Faith is the birthplace of the things we Hope for. “Hope” in its simplest terms is “expecting good.” Someone once told me that we all have an expectation for the future - a good expectation or a bad expectation. Good expectations are from God (that’s the birthplace of HOPE!). And Bad expectations are from the devil (that’s the birthplace of fear).
Great hope is the result of great faith.
Great faith is the result of the revelation of the Love God has for you.
Let me encourage you to dive into the depths of the love of God so that your faith can take root and grow. Don’t beat yourself up for your lack of faith or your fear of the future, but rather, ask God to reveal more fully to you the depth of His love for you as His child.
We encourage you to listen to this short YouTube video I recorded, “God’s Kind of Love.”
