ReIntroduced
Imagine a complete stranger walking up to you and saying, “I’ve heard about you and...I don’t like you.” Hi, I’m Brooke, and I myself have been judged prematurely by others before. People have made their minds up about me before they ever really had the chance to get to know me.
You know what? I feel like that’s exactly what people have done with God. We can make our mind up before we ever really get to know Him personally.
In my devotional book, THE WARRIOR, I share with you the story of God and His Son, Jesus. It’s a love story, full of passion and unforeseen twist, there are heroes and villains, and an ending that no one could have ever predicted. So, let me ask you: What do YOU know about God?
Most of us only know what we have either been told or just snippets we have read here and there. But wouldn’t you like to make up your own mind about God. Isn’t it only reasonable to get the facts, from His very own Word, and then, YOU decide for yourself what to believe about Him.
Interested? I mean, really, Its only a 30 day investment! What have you got to lose??
So, before we dive in this journey together to discover who God really is, I want to briefly tell you a little about myself and my story. I grew up in what is known as the “Bible Belt,” here, in the middle of North Carolina. I cannot remember a time of not knowing about God, however, I would come to find out, there was a huge difference between knowing ABOUT God and KNOWING God.
As a young child, I was told that when I died I would either go to heaven or hell. There isn’t a third option. I didn’t want to go to hell, so I asked Jesus to save me. I asked Him to come into my heart and to take me to heaven one day. I could have been labeled a “good girl” all through school and my teenage years. I never drank, cursed, or partied. I began to develop this mindset that if I did good, if I kept the golden rule of treating others the way I wanted to be treated, If I went to church and read my Bible and prayed, that God was keeping score. I assumed if I did good, I would get good. I was trying to earn God’s blessings and favor.
All of that mindset was shattered, along with my picturesque dream life as my husband and I tried to get pregnant. Month after month went by, Until it turned into year after year. Which began a painful journey of doctor visits and test and procedures. I became angry, hardened, I built walls around my heart and began to question, “Who is God,” “Does He even care about me,” and “Is He really good?”
I will share with you how my story ends, but not today, because over the next 30 days, I want you to discover for yourself the answer to those same questions I had:
Who is God?
Does He care about you?
Is He really good?
If you are looking for truth, Gods Word says you will find it. Because Truth is actually a Person. Truth is Jesus and Jesus is Truth! Jesus, God’s Son, said this, “I am the Truth.” You will never be able to separate truth from the person of Jesus. They are One in the same. So, will you allow me introduce you to the most amazing Friend you’ll ever have.
When looking at the Bible and wanting to discover who God is, it can sometimes seems a bit overwhelming, Huh? Well, The best place to start is the beginning, I mean the very beginning! The first 4 words in the first book of the Bible is, “In the beginning God...”
If you can believe the first 4 words are true, then you can certainly trust Him for the rest of it. If God WAS, then He still IS! “In the beginning God...” And deep down inside every human being, God placed a longing and yearning inside of you for Him. It’s kinda like a hole in your heart that nothing can fill...except Him.
Romans 1:19- “In reality, the truth fo God is known instinctively, for God has embedded this knowledge inside every human heart.”
Remember that little toy you may have had as a kid that had all kinds of shaped holes in it with the corresponding object (square, circle, triangle) and you had to get the shaped object to line up with the right hole for it to go in? That’s what I am talking about! There is a hole in your life, in your heart really, that only God can fill.
You were made with it. This is something I know I don’t have to convince you of, because Romans 1:19 says that you know it and feel it instinctively!
Boy, I am excited to take this journey with you and share with you who I have personally discovered God to be, but for today, Here is what I’d ask you to do:
Would you have the courage to pray this prayer:
“God, if You are real, would You speak to me. Would You show Me the truth of who You really are? I will give you a clean slate and I will come with an open heart and open mind.”
God wants you to give Him a chance and He’s inviting you to get to know Him personally.
