What If
What if I don’t get healed?
What if that job doesn’t come through?
What if my child doesn’t choose God?
What if, what if, what if?!?
“What If’s” are the enemy’s bait in his attempt to draw you away from the promises of God and in to doubt, worry, and fear. “What If’s” are daggers aimed at your thought life. These thoughts of doubt and fear attempt to bypass the “shield of faith” every believer is instructed to hold up and stop every fiery dart of the devil.
The “What If’s” that are being fired at you could be about your health, your finances, your family, or your future. Once you give those doubts and concerns access into your mind, you become susceptible to an attack from the enemy. We must be actively aware of this scheme of the devil and do what Paul said in 2 Corinthians 10:5 - “We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
Your mind is the place the enemy attacks. And the moment you give in to his “What If’s,” instead of fighting them with your faith in the Word of God, you will move from doubt to fear, then from fear to unbelief.
Let me give you two examples of this in Scripture:
Example 1.) Eve - The serpent (satan) asked Eve, “What if God isn’t good? What if He is holding out on you? What if you could be like God?” (I’m paraphrasing to emphasize that satan's words were aimed at mankind's identity as children and image bearers of God).
Example 2.) Jesus. Satan asked Jesus, “Are you the Son of God?” The devil went straight for Jesus’ identity too. And how did Jesus respond? The Word. Not His feelings. Not His ideas, but He spoke only what God spoke. That it the key to victory!
The enemy went for Eve’s identity and then he attempted the same strategy on Jesus. Let me give you a heads-up, he will attempt to go straight for your identity as well: “What if you really aren’t blessed?” “You won’t be healed, you will just have to learn to live with these symptoms.” “Prosperous? You! Ha, what a joke. Why would God want you to prosper?” “What if you messed up too much.“ “What if your children won’t serve God.” “Preacher, you?! You can’t preach the Word; look Oh at your past.”
He attempts to come against your identity as a child of God and His image bearer. You must hold firm to your faith and double down on your confession - IF GOD SAID IT, I BELIEVE IT. AND THAT SETTLES IT.
We must mirror Jesus. When the enemy comes with his subtle attacks against our faith, we MUST know what God says. His Word alone has the final say. Not our feelings. Not our medical report. Not social media (or any media for that matter). Not our past. Nothing, absolutely nothing supersedes the power and authority of God’s Word.
But, (yes, there is a but) here’s the lynchpin.
If the Word isn’t believed and confessed, it won’t be activated in your life. Confession is HUGE for every aspect of our life. We must confess our sins to be forgiven. We must confess Jesus as Lord to have access to a personal Savior. But confession without belief is hollow noise. Here is what I had to do and I encourage you to do the same. According to James 1, we must fully believe what God says before we can receive what God says. I found my promises in Scripture, read them, re-read them, meditated on them, and then, THEN, confessed them - because now I was convinced of them and believed they were mine!
You must believe the Word, then confess the Word:
“By His stripes I am healed.” (1 Peter 2)
“The Lord will grant me abundant prosperity.” (Deuteronomy 28)
”With a long life God will satisfy me.” (Psalm 91)
“God forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.” (Psalm 103)
There is promise after promise in Scripture and I can assure you, there is a promise for your specific situation too! Dig into God’s Word and know that is personally yours! Then hold your ground until you receive your promises!
Today, I believe we need to repent for allowing worries, fears, doubts, which are all rooted in not believing God’s Word to be true and we need to evict the enemy from our minds by renewing them with the Word of God.
“Father God, I am sorry for my doubts. I am sorry that I have questioned Your goodness and doubted Your promises. Forgive me and help me increase my faith by learning to stand on Your Word. I choose to hold Your Word above my circumstances, above the doctor’s report, about my feelings. Renew my strength today and refresh my relationship with You with a greater revelation of Your personal love for me. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.”
Here’s my own personal twist to the “What If” game. What if the only thing we’d believe is the Word of God. What if we would quit listening to our friends opinions of doctrines, the news media, the world, our family, and go before God with the Bible and ask for the help of the Holy Spirit, and find the promises we need and become unmovable as we advance the Kingdom of God in our own lives, homes, our schools, our towns, our country, and our world.
That is exactly our intention! Join us as we advance God’s Kingdom on earth!
We love y'all. May God’s blessings be upon you all, dear friends.
