Dear Child of God
Dear Child of God Who feels Unworthy, Guilty, or Condemned,
You are righteous. There is no flaw, no sin, no mistake or failure on you! When you came to Christ, you became part of a new race: the redeemed. You’re literally, perfectly righteous and beautiful in His eyes.
Because of Jesus, we no longer can label ourselves as “sinners” or claim our righteousness as “filthy rags.” To do so is to deny the power and work of the cross of Christ in our life.
My friend, you’re free:
Free from condemnation.
Free from guilt.
Free from shame…ever again!
I hope you have your socks on tight, because this could quite possibly nock them off!
Romans 5 says that through one man, Adam, sin entered the world. One man sinned, and by doing so, the entire earth was put under a curse. Everyone born from Adam (that’s all of us) is born a sinner, with a nature to sin. So sinning isn’t what makes us a sinner, but rather, we sinned because it was our nature to sin.
Here’s where the Good News comes in!
Because of another Man’s righteousness, Jesus Christ, we were made righteous! Do you get it?!? It’s the other side of the same coin! One man’s sin made us all sinners, BUT One Man’s righteousness, makes us righteous…forever!
Before you came to Christ, it was your nature to sin. Now you are a new creation, created in righteousness! Look at these two verses:
“For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:17 NLT
“For He (God) made Him ( Jesus ) who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (Christ).” II Corinthians 5:21 NKJV
He became what you were so you could become what He is! Isn’t that awesome?!? You are a son/daughter of God, perfectly righteous in His eyes…now, tomorrow, next week, next year, FOREVER! Our righteousness is a GIFT!
See, the problem most of us seem to have isn’t believing and receiving God’s gift of righteousness. Our confusion usually comes in believing that WE have to maintain this righteousness.
Religion says that OUR righteousness is up to US, and we have to behave 100% right to maintain it. Not only is that unbiblical, but if it was up to us and our behavior, our effort, our works, to determine our right standing with God, this totally negates the GIFT of righteousness, given to us by the work of the cross.
Let me give you an example:
Imagine a sinner, showing up to your church on a Sunday morning, drunk, high, or whatever. Who of us wouldn’t be willing to show that person the love and grace and mercy of God? We all would, right?
Let’s say that man decides to give his life to Christ and in a moment, the man becomes a new creation, part of the redeemed family of God. He has now become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus!
He is now part of God’s family and is part of that new race!
Now, imagine the same man comes back to church the next week, drunk or high, what is our response? Is he still the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus? Or did his behavior now void God’s gift of righteousness?
Praise the Lord, this man is still the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus! His behavior did not change his identity!
Just to be clear, I’m not advocating a sin habit. Romans 6 clearly says that sin will lead to death. Sin is dumb because it opens the door for the enemy in you life, but here’s the point I’m making: Our security, our righteousness is not based on what we have done or will do. Our righteousness is not based on behavior, not based on good or bad works, but our security and righteousness is based on what God has done for you.
Don’t live in condemnation.
Don’t live in guilt.
God calls you righteous!
God is Spirit and His relationship with you is based on who you are IN YOUR SPIRIT! YOUR NEW MAN is perfect, sinless, pure, holy, without fault! That’s the righteousness of Jesus Christ and that righteousness is in you!
My prayer for you is that you would stop focusing your attention on your mistakes, sin, or failures. But rather, focus on Jesus and Who He is IN you! My friend, you have been re-created! It’s not even in your new nature to sin anymore anyway. Start believing that you have been FOREVER made right with God, it will change your life! Sin will be the furtherest thing from your mind because grateful love will pour out of every area of your life!
He became what you were so you could become what He is!
